FUNCTIONS AND ACTIVITIES OF THE DEPARTMENT OF TOURISM SUPPORT SERVICES (TSS)
INTRODUCTION:
The Department of Tourism Support Services was established out of the Department of Domestic and Eco-tourism in January 2024 following the creation of the Federal Ministry of Tourism. The policy objective of creating the new Department is to strengthen the focal and specific functions that will accelerate the development of the tourism sector in Nigeria. The Department is located at Head of Service Building Phase II, Federal Secretariat, Complex Shehu Shagari Way, Abuja. The mandate/strategic objective is to oversee the provision of tourism sector, support services. The Department has two divisions:
- Tourism Statistical Research and Information Management
- Enterprise Development and Transformation
- FUNCTIONS:
Tourism Statistical Research and Information Management
- Provide information to guide policy formulation, planning and decision-making. Utilize new and efficient technologies for information management
- Facilitate research, statistical analysis, monitoring and evaluation at sub-national, national and international levels. Coordinate the establishment of a national system of Tourism Statistics and development of a Tourism Satellite Account (TSA) Etc.
Enterprise Development and Transformation
- Tourism education and skills development. Coordinate public, private partnership. Annual meeting of Commissioners, Permanent Secretaries and Directors of Tourism from the States and the FCT
- Create enabling legislative and regulatory environment for tourism development and growth. Manage strategic sector partnerships etc.
